Bill Frederick of rural Jefferson is among the speakers at a free cover crop meeting slated for Feb. 2 at White Rock Conservancy in Coon Rapids.
Frederick, of Iowa Cover Crops, will discuss cover crop selection. Other topics will include spring agronomy, cover crop pest management and more. The meeting, from 9 am to 1 pm, will include three speakers, a webinar, a free lunch and time to ask panelists questions.
This meeting will provide real world cover crop education for farmers considering cover crops, questions about spring agronomy, and advanced scouting programs for agronomists concerned with potential impacts of cover crops on cash crops.
The three in-person sessions include: the state of cover crops and small grains in Iowa with Sarah Carlson (Practical Farmers of Iowa); a review of spring agronomy with cover crops by Jason Nees (agronomist with Axis Seed); and cover crop selection with Frederick (Iowa Cover Crops).
At 11 am, an American Society of Agronomy webinar series episode sponsored by North Central Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE), will feature Dr. Eileen Kladivko (Purdue University) and Chris Teachout (Iowa farmer) and address cover crops in real word conditions as well as pest management coupled with scouting indicators.
